Ruby came to HART as an owner surrender and fit into her foster home beautifully from the moment she arrived. She is a fun-loving and active girl who is friendly with everyone she meets, whether two or four legged. An extremely affectionate dog, Ruby loves to snuggle, cuddle, hug, kiss... she's game for it all!

Given her young age and breed mixes (Beagle/Border Collie we were told), she requires a fair amount of daily exercise to remain fit and keep her energy level in check. She loves nothing more than to run, explore, play and then run and play some more. Without lots of daily physical and mental stimulation Ruby can be barky. Picture a young hooligan bouncing off the walls. With her exercise needs met, Ruby is a lovely girl in the house. She is quiet, well-mannered and content to snooze or calmly occupy herself with her toys. She is no different than any other young high energy breed. Exercise is key!

Ruby LOVES other dogs and would be over the moon to join a family with another playful dog to wrestle, run and hang out with. While out and about walking, Ruby likes to greet other dogs with exuberant barks. Unless you like walking a leaping, excited hooligan, you will probably want to work on curbing her enthusiasm and teaching her to be calm when she spies another dog. Ruby did live with a cat and her surrendering owner said she was fine but we have not witnessed this firsthand. In fact, she barks and attempts to chase the cats at her foster home. So, probably a cat free home is best.

As far as her manners Ruby is pretty good. She's had a great start in life, having completed one level of obedience. She knows all her basic commands and being extremely food motivated, she'd love to learn more (since it involves lots of treats!). Speaking of food motivated, she is something of a counter surfer so any food left near the edge is fair game, in her mind anyways. She walks fairly well on leash and is used to walking with a no-pull harness. Crate training is a work in progress. She feels the very best place to sleep is nestled in as close as possible to you in your bed.

In summary, Ruby is great. That is all. Oh, and she needs a fenced yard to zoom in.

Ruby is spayed, up to date with her vaccines, heartworm tested negative, microchipped and on parasite prevention.  She comes with a certificate for one month of free pet insurance.
