FAQs about HART

How long has HART been running?

HART was founded in 1995 by a group of devoted, dog-loving North Hastings citizens to serve the Bancroft, Ontario catchment.

Do you help cats?

HART is a dog rescue and unfortunately we do not rescue cats. We suggest you contact the closest OSPCA to your location. You could also try googling cat rescues in your area.

Can HART help me with my vet bills?

HART receives no government funding, depends on private donations and the funds we raise ourselves, and because this money pays for the dogs in our care, we CANNOT help with the vet bills of others.

Is HART a registered charity?

Yes, we are, since 1996! Our registered charity number is #83739 0749 RR0001

How can I get involved?

You can foster, volunteer, donate, the list goes on. Check out our How You Can Help page!

Do you have a shelter where I can come and visit?

HART has no formal shelter. We rely solely on a province-wide network of volunteer foster homes to care for the dogs we rescue until they are ready for adoption.

What is your mailing address?

Our mailing address can be found on the Contact Us page.

What about tax receipts?

As a registered charity, HART issues tax receipts for all donations $20 or more.

Can I direct a United Way donation to you?

Yes, for sure! Anyone can direct their United Way contributions to the registered charity of their choice. They only need to indicate on the United Way form the name of the charity and the registered charity number. Ours is #83739 0749 RR0001. For your convenience they also have a payroll deduction program.

Pretty Sasha

Pretty Sasha Teen Mom to Cherished Pet

Sasha came into HART's care pregnant when she was just 10 months old. We didn't know she was pregnant but when she starting gaining weight, she was taken to the vet and it was confirmed. What a surprise! Six perfect pups were born at a HART foster home and all thrived and were adopted at the age of 9 weeks to fabulous families. Sasha was also adopted by a previous HART adopter and she's doing great too!
